Michael J. Pace Sr.
Mr. Pace proudly served our country in the US Navy from 1967-1976. Following his honorable discharge, he was employed by United States Steel to work in the Security and Fire Services Department. Over the following years Mr. Pace held a variety of positions, with escalating ranks, culminating in Department Manager of Security and Fire Services, the highest rank at the local level. United States Steel employs a public safety model encompassing police type duties, manual fire fighting, emergency medical services, rescue, hazardous material response, as well as other additional emergency services responsibilities.
Mr. Pace was responsible for the administration and oversight of all Security and Fire functions for three plants located in Indiana, and one in Chicago, Illinois. Mr. Pace also conducted corporate investigations, audits, and risk assessments and was a member of the “corporate due diligence teams” for the acquisition of steel plants in Serbia, Slovakia, Canada and the U.S.
During his term as Department Manager, Mr. Pace served on the Lake County Emergency Planning Committee and was a member on the Board of Directors of the Indiana Association of Chiefs of Police and the Northwest Indiana Law Enforcement Academy. He was also a member of the American Society of Industrial Security and the Indiana Sheriffs Association.
After 33 years at U.S. Steel, Mr. Pace retired in 2009 and was immediately employed by Safety Training & Technical Services as its General Manager and was responsible for all company operations. STTS employed 160 people, with offices in Granite City, Illinois, Detroit, Michigan and Hobart, Indiana. Mr. Pace retired from STTS in April 2015.
